WritingThe Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library welcomes a pair of authors to a discussion on their passion for writing at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 27, in the Conference Room of the library, 2201 SW 134th St.

Dorothea Maynard, a published fiction author, and Rebekah Roberts, who recently published her first novel, are the panelists for the discussion. They’ll discuss all things writing, including their inspirations and motivation that drive their passion to write.

Dive in and Dig it with Stephen Fite

StephenStephen Fite’s high-energy songs and skits have entertained hundreds of thousands of children across the country.

And now, he’s bringing those musical sounds to the Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library at 2 and 7 p.m. Monday, June 24 for a chance for children to “Dive in and Dig It!” during this year’s Summer Reading Program.

Fite has performed children’s music since the early 1980s, with his work geared primarily to ages 3 to 7. While his start in the business wasn’t necessarily glamorous, he’s developed into an award-winning performer.

SOKC tweens to discuss “Gregor the Overlander”

CoverThe Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library hosts this month’s edition of its Tween Book Talk at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, at the library, 2201 SW 134th St.

This month’s selection is “Gregor the Overlander” by Suzanne Collins. Copies of the book are available for checkout at the Children’s Desk for ages 9-12 interested in taking part in the discussion of it at the Book Talk.

Break through into the world of eBooks with SOKC program

SOKC - Summer Reading - Adult

eReaderBreak new ground with a new way to read via the eBooks and Audio Books available through the Pioneer Library System’s Virtual Library.

And learn the best ways to make a smartphone, tablet or eReader work at an eBook and Audio Book workshop at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at the Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library, 2201 SW 134th St.

Participants are asked to bring their mobile device if they have one. They’ll get a lesson in how to use it and also information on downloading free books for their reading this summer.

Update! Community Disaster Relief Meetings

Just So You Know post-itFirst American Bank is sponsoring additional community meeting for disaster relief on the following dates, at the Southwest Oklahoma City Library 2201 SW 134th:

July 16th at 7PM

Presenters will include FEMA, SBA, American Red Cross, City of Moore, Moore Chamber of Commerce, City of Oklahoma City, the OSCPA, the incoming Moore Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Robert Romines and others responding to this disaster.

Please note: The June 24th meeting, at 7PM, has been moved to Hillsdale Baptist College. The July 9th meeting, at 7PM, has been moved to the Moore Community Center.
