For Smaller Bookworms, July 2014

Iron Hearted Violet by Kelly Barnhill
AR Level: 5.3; AR Points: 11.0

In Princess Violet's world, stories are told of the twelve gods who created the multiverse.  One day Violet and her friend, Demetrius, come across the secret story of a thirteenth god, a creature called the Nybbas that was imprisoned in the mirrored sky of their world for enslaving both dragons and people.  When the Nybbas grants Violet a wish, the whole world ends up in terrible danger. Written from the point of view of the castle's official storyteller, this book begs to be read aloud.

Keep Reading! July, 2014

Here are my three selections for this month. All are good summer reads.

THE CURSED by Heather Graham

Graham returns to Key West in her latest Krewe of Hunters series as a gang leader called The Wolf terrorizes the town and bed and breakfast owner Hannah O’Brien.  Local legends and mysteries have made Hannah the target of unscrupulous and evil men.

This book examines the importance of a father, no matter the family structure.  Drawing on various fields of science, the author explores the importance of a father from conception to adulthood and the importance of the relationship between mother and father.

Peter loves baseball; being a pitcher defines him.  However, when he blows out his elbow at the end of his eighth grade season, he must enter high school trying to find out who he is now.  This Sequoyah Intermediate Masterlist selection is a story of family, friendship, and personal discovery.  A good choice for boys and girls.

Hot Reads for July

The Fabulous Fiction Finds corner is heating up in July.  All titles contain the words "heat" or "hot."  It's a wide range of genres, from mysteries to love stories.  So come by and pick up a novel to read while under the air conditioner.  You can't beat a good book for a hot time.
