The Shawnee Public Library welcomes its youngest readers to experience stories and more at its Preschool Story Times.
Story Times take place twice on Tuesdays, at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., from September through November on Tuesdays the library is open.

The Shawnee Public Library, with the aid of the Oklahoma Humanities Council, is going back to the days of the Founding Fathers for the “Let’s Talk About It Oklahoma” book discussion series on the topic “American Icons.”
This will be a four-part series, with discussions taking place at 7 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 4 and 18 and Oct. 2 and 16, at the library, 101 N. Philadelphia Ave.
Discussions will be led by local scholars, including Dr. Bill Hagen, retired Professor of English at Oklahoma Baptist University; James Farthing, Dr. Trisha Yarbrough, and Dr. Carol Sue Humphrey, Professor of History at OBU.

The work of teens during this year’s Summer Reading Program gets its public debut at the Shawnee Public Library at the unveiling of the mosaic art piece “Magic Carpet Ride of Imagination,” taking place at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the library, 101 N. Philadelphia Ave.
The piece originally was designed by local artist Julie Blackstone and then created by teen participants in the Summer Reading Program during a workshop. The mosaic adds to several projects Blackstone has led teens in during recent summers.
